THIRD QUARTER 2025

The ODS ACCIÓ foundation participates in the presentation of a new european proposal on preservation and valorisation of regional cultural heritage through advanced digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence

The ODS ACCIÓ Foundation, within the framework of its foundational purposes, has participated as a partner in a proposal for a European research and innovation project focused on preserving, renovating, and certifying cultural landscapes through an interoperable and sustainable digital ecosystem.

Endorsed by universities and entities specialising in digital cultural heritage, the initiative addresses the need to valorise regional heritage that often lacks funding and resources. The project proposes a holistic architecture that integrates HBIM and GIS technologies to create 4D digital twins representing both tangible and intangible elements.

It is founded on four technological pillars: heritage digital twins developed into dynamic models with metadata; virtual museums built upon these twins as intelligent memory factories; XR, VR, and AR tools that provide immersive experiences of significant evocative value; and quality certification and data authenticity services, which are essential for scientific reuse.

The modular architecture enables the integration of components such as HBIM-GIS 4D, virtual museums, immersive applications, and data certification in galleries, interactive maps, or virtual tours, which are available as a collaborative European service or can be downloaded by third parties. These solutions will be tested in seven real-world use cases, validating their ability to connect heritage, communities, and sustainable development through an innovative digital ecosystem.

This project significantly contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Firstly, it aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education), as the United Nations states, “education is the key that will allow achieving many other sustainable development goals” [1]. By creating virtual museums and immersive experiences, the project promotes “lifelong learning opportunities for all,” especially in the field of cultural heritage. Secondly, the initiative drives SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by developing an “interoperable and sustainable digital ecosystem” based on advanced technologies such as AI, digital twins, and BIM [2]. Finally, the project supports SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), which aims to “protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage” [3]. The enhancement of regional heritage and the connection between heritage, communities, and sustainable development are a clear example of this commitment.
