SECOND QUARTER 2024

The ODS ACCIÓ Foundation has participated as a partner in the presentation of a European project proposal on renewable energy systems

The ODS ACCIÓ Foundation, in compliance with its foundational purposes, has participated as a partner in the presentation of a research and innovation project proposal to the European Commission on decentralized renewable net energy systems, in collaboration with European universities and organizations with expertise in the project’s fields of specialization.

The role of the Foundation will be to promote and communicate the research and development of the project and its technological applications, focusing on the full integration of various energy sources, such as thermal and electrical in smart buildings and grids, with the aim of making cost-effective and optimizing digital tools, component size and operability, in large-scale environments in European contexts.

The advantages and benefits that these net renewable energy systems will bring are many: improving the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, generating significant economic savings by requiring less maintenance and allowing for a longer useful life and less dependence on polluting fossil fuel-based energy systems.

The main challenge of this ambitious European-wide project is to offer energy solutions that will make it possible to meet decarbonization objectives, goals that the Foundation promotes and encourages through these initiatives in which it actively participates, on this occasion, in the search for new innovative, renewable and efficient technologies for the scientific community and industry, which will make it possible to move towards a more sustainable planet.

This European project on decentralised renewable energy systems strategically contributes to multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) is directly driven by the development of “decentralised renewable net energy systems” that seek to “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy” [1]. The integration of various thermal and electrical energy sources in smart buildings responds to the urgent need to “invest in clean energy sources” to combat climate change. SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) is strengthened through the optimisation of “digital tools” and advanced components that promote sustainable technological innovation [2]. Finally, SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) is materialized through strategic collaboration between “universities and expert European entities,” demonstrating how international alliances are fundamental to achieving decarbonization objectives [3].
